This Week’s Health and Fitness Tip – Ginger, Rosemary and Stretch…

The Shift’s Health & Fitness Tips

Try Some Ginger: 
The volatile oils in ginger have long made it a useful herbal remedy for nasal and chest congestion. Pour 2 cups of boiling water over a 1-inch piece of peeled, grated ginger; steep for 10 minutes; and strain.
Add a pinch or two of cayenne pepper to the water and drink as needed.

Sniff Rosemary:
According to some research, catching a whiff of this aromatic herb may increase alertness and improve memory. To stay sharp, try smelling fresh rosemary or inhaling the scent of rosemary essential oil before a test or meeting.

Stretch Often: 
If your back is in pain constantly, try and work on morning stretches or little cat stretches throughout the day. We love little stretches since they help align your  back and ease the pain off of your muscles when you’ve been in one position all day.

Find a Workout That Works for You:
No matter what you want to try, whether it’s Piloxing, Yoga, Pilates, Kick Boxing or Running, there’s something for everyone. We’re not all going to love jogging or cycling, but we do have to learn to love to move. When you get moving there are so many amazing things that happen: your mood is better, your eating habits change and your life begins to fall into place when you feel good. Don’t take this lightly, everything can change if you allow it.

DAILY TRANSFORMATIONAL NUGGETS FOR THE BODY, MIND, AND SPIRIT: 31 Days of Setting Intentions – Day 17 “The Meditation Practice”

Today’s Body Connection:  Fitness can be the act of meditation.  When we are mindful of how the body-temple moves, we are in the practice of meditation.  The practice of body awareness starts with a mental connection to how the body feels in the present moment.  We must not judge the body; just stay aware and witness what is happening during your workout.  We must not call it good or bad; the body is neutral, having an experience.  Stay awake to any energy you might experience during your walk or run.  Be aware of any internal messages your body is telling you during your fitness session.  If you are open and willing to hear, you will know everything you need to know to empower and transform your life.  It begins with mindfulness; it begins with meditation.

Today’s Meditative Thought: The word “meditation” means mindful listening or awareness.  Meditation is the time we set aside during the day to go within and hear the voice of God.  The only way we can truly experience the Universal presence is through meditation.  It is in the stillness that we shall know the Universal Flow.

My favorite movie is “The Color Purple.”  At the end of the film, the song Shug and a glorious choir sings is “Maybe God Is Trying to Tell You Something.”  The chorus repeats, “Maybe God is trying to tell you something.”  Whenever I hear it I am reminded that God is always speaking to us, but we are not always listening.

When we are quiet and still, that is the time we commune with Spirit; that is the only time we are available to truly hear what needs to be heard.  We must set the intention to be still every day.  It is the consistency of an everyday practice that helps us to build our spiritual consciousness along with our dedication to see God unfold.  When we are present and listening — it may be during a conversation, during fellowship, or when we are alone — our life opens up to a deeper dimension.  Be present, be awake, hear the message of the heart, and it will transform your life.

Today’s Action Plan:  Today, set the intention to meditate.  For the next 30 days, set an appointment with God.  Find the time to be still.  It could be five minutes, 30 minutes, or an hour; it does not matter.  Just do it.  Take the time to sit and listen.  Don’t think, don’t create a shopping list, and don’t worry about where you need to be next.  Just listen.  Listen to your breathing, listen to your heartbeat, and listen to nature.  Be present and be aware during the time you have allotted for the stillness.  This is a sacred time, a precious moment in eternity.  The practice of meditation will change your life.

Today’s Affirmation:  Just for this moment…just for this breath, I am the emanation of God, blessed and filled with love.  My meditation practice fuels my life and I am everything I desire to be.  And so is it.  And so it is.  Amen.

DAILY TRANSFORMATIONAL NUGGETS FOR THE BODY, MIND, AND SPIRIT: 31 Days of Setting Intentions – Day 12 “Embracing Your Self” 

Today’s Body Connection:  Every intention is a yes for embracing your life force.  The word embrace means to hold tight to something or someone you adore.  Fitness is a big fat yes to life.  When we talk about life, it is the space of being, the vibration the Divine.  When we set the intention to embrace life and activate the universal flow of energy, exercise is one of the greatest tools we have.

Today’s Meditative Thought: This year, set the intention to embrace your self, your full self.  We are our own worst critics.  We can beat ourselves up more than anyone else.  We must learn to accept ourselves and to embrace and love every part of our being.  One of the practices I work on with my clients is “Loving Language” with our selves. When we use language like “I hate my hips” or “I hate my lips,” we anchor a mindset of defeat.  If there is something about yourself that you dislike or wish to change, it is an invitation to create a deeper spiritual practice that will always elevate growth within your life.  With that awareness, we are free to bless that which causes us discomfort as it always leads us back to God.

Today’s Action Plan:  Today, speak words of empowerment.  Be aware of your language.  Commit to the practice of the Love Language.  If your words do not inspire you to love your self, don’t speak them.  Take the time to breathe and wait a moment before you speak.  Set the intention to be aware of the power of your language.

Today’s Affirmation:  Just for this moment…just for this breath, I speak the language of Love.  I bless my life with divine words of the Universe.  Amen.

DAILY TRANSFORMATIONAL NUGGETS FOR THE BODY, MIND, AND SPIRIT: 31 Days of Setting Intentions – Day 2  “Creating Open Spaces”

Today’s Body Connection:  If you are bored with your fitness routine, it is time to start again.  The energy of boredom comes from the inability to touch your inner creativity.   Revamping your training regime is a great way to restart your fitness program.  Be willing to go within and ask yourself what is missing.  Take the time for self-exploration.  When we become willing to shift the way we train our body-temples, infinite possibilities become our truth.  There are many pathways to wholeness; be willing to shift direction.

Today’s Meditative Thought: Setting intentions means opening our consciousness and creating space to grow.  We must be willing to release our old ideas so that we may have new experiences on our spiritual walk.  Our intentions set into motion the clearing away of old paradigms that no longer serve us.  It is the open space that gives us breathing room so that new and powerful transformative work can take place.  When we set the intention to be more, there must be a willingness to ask the question, “What must I release? What must I become?”  The intention to transform is the intention to become more. 

Today’s Action Plan:  Today, set aside everything you think you know about your journey so that you are open and free to have a new and fresh experience in God.  Use the “set aside prayer”; “May I set aside everything I think I know about ____  (fill in the blank) so that I may have a new experience.”  Be willing to release everything that no longer serves you.  Create a space for transformation.

Today’s Affirmation:  Just for this moment…just for this breath, I am a new experience in the mind of God.  My life is a fresh idea that blesses the planet.  Amen.

DAILY TRANSFORMATIONAL NUGGETS FOR THE BODY, MIND, AND SPIRIT: 31 Days of Celebrating Light – Day 16  “The Abundance of Light”

Today’s Body Connection:  The technique of walking and running is simple: You place one foot in front of the other and move forward.  As your heel strikes the ground, roll through the ball of the foot and push off, connect with the earth under you foot.  Do it with purpose and intention: to shine your light.  Every step is an expression of the abundance of health that radiates from the center of your soul.  Be aware, stay awake, and move with the power of the Divine. Every step is one step closer to your goals and living the life you are meant to live.

Today’s Meditative Thought: Light can never run out.  Even where it appears to be dark is never completely void of the Light; it is only an appearance.  The experience of lack and limitation is a direct inability to see the Light, as well as your inability to tap into God.  The Light is infinite, more abundant than we can imagine.  God is everywhere, just waiting to be recognized.  When we are challenged by the waves in the sea of life, there is always an invitation to start again, an invitation to return to the practice.  There is enough God to cover all of our issues; we must be willing to allow God to be bigger and more abundant than our current paradigm.

Today’s Action Plan:  Today, allow God to be more abundant than your current situation.  God’s grace is sufficient for all of your problems.  Take all your concerns and leave them at the altar of the Divine.  Turn to the Light that is everywhere present.

Today’s Affirmation:  Just for this moment…just for this breath, my life is filled with an abundance of Light, love, and Joy.  I am on point and a true expression of the Light.  And so I am.  And I let it be.  Amen

Today’s Body Connection: When you are experiencing sickness, stay home and rest. One of the hardest things to do is to take time off from your workout, especially when you begin to see results.  Taking a day or two off is the best thing we can do when we’re ill.  We will come back stronger and more effective once we have healed.  During our dis-ease of the body-temple, it is challenging to see our inner light, but know that it lives within our souls no matter what.  The Light of Love is our essence; be willing to connect with that light.

Today’s Meditative Thought:  Back in the day, there was a great dance track by Alison Limerick called, “Where Love Lives.”  My favorite line from the song is, “follow me down, deep down where love lives…” The message of the song invites us to go within to find love.  The Light of God lives within all of us and can only be accessed by going deep into your soul.  It is true that the Light lives everywhere, but the initial recognition starts with an exploration of our being.

Today’s Action Plan:  Today, begin to look for love within yourself.  Take a journey into your inner being and find Divine Love.  You will know when you find it, because nothing else will matter.  The Grace of God fills you up like no other.  Nothing else comes close to the fulfillment that the Light brings.

Today’s Affirmation:  Just for this moment…just for this breath, the Light of God lives deep within my soul and it activates my greatest potential. And so it is.  Amen

Today’s Body Connection:  During yoga practice, it is the stillness that invites us to know the Light.  The physical practice of Yoga is a battle between love and fear. Our soul’s desire is to know serenity and peace, to release the chaotic activity of the mental mind that fear may bring.  Today, dance in the light and release your fear.  It’s okay to let your inner self shine through the practice.  The light can overtake the fear if you are willing.

Today’s Meditative Thought: Light and fear cannot coexist within the same consciousness.  There can only be one state of awareness.  We cannot experience our true nature if we allow fear to rule our lives.  The God experience is full of grace and it is the only true power there is.  It’s not the fact we don’t experience fear, but fear is only active when we are unable to connect with our divine self.  The power of the Light is the highest expression of Love; therefore in this space there is no fear, doubt, lack, or limitation; only the God experience.  The absolute presence of the One Mind is exactly that: absolute.

Today’s Action Plan:  Today, free your mind from a dual consciousness.   God is, or God is not.  Today’s work is about being aware when we fall into a belief of anything outside of God.  Know the truth that God is all that there is, and notice the shift within your life.

Today’s Affirmation:  Just for this moment…just for this breath, I am one in Love; therefore my life is the life of the Light.  And so it is.  Amen

 Today’s Body Connection:  Can you find your blessings?  They are always there but we don’t always see them.  During your workout, set the intention to see the gifts that the light bestows upon us.  Remember, when you exercise the body-temple, you radiate a glowing light.  When you get your blood moving or elevate your heart rate, there is a natural radiance of heath and fitness that cannot be denied.  Today, get your eternal glow by participating in your physical practice.

Today’s Meditative Thought: When we identify with the Light, we become aware that everything the Light is, we are. There is nothing the Light has that we don’t posses ourselves.  Every divine quality is freely expressed as you.  All the things you are seeking, whether it’s love, joy, compassion, abundance, and grace, you already are. The blessing of the Light is the realization that you are one in the Light.  When I use “Be blessed” or “Be well” as a salutation or a goodbye, it’s another way of saying, “Awaken to your divinity, know that you are blessed.”

Today’s Action Plan:  Today, take the time to meditate on the blessing of the Light.  Know that you are blessed because you are one in God.  Remember that the blessing is the realization of who and whose you are.  Once you know this for yourself, share the love with others by simply saying, “Be Well.”

Today’s Affirmation:  Just for this moment…just for this breath, I am blessed and well, because my life is the life of God.  And so it is.

Today’s Body Connection:  Keep a record of your results and transformation.  Keep a journal of your journey.  It is inspiring to see where you have come from.

Today’s Meditative Thought: The Light is the one and only power that really exists; everything else only has the power we give it.  Lack, limitation, hurt, and disappointment have power because of our reaction.  If we allow people, places, situations, or things dominion over our lives, we have given power to those things.  Once we remember the true power of the Light, everything else dissolves and falls away.  When we enter into communion with God, our problems, issues, and concerns are just swallowed up into nothing.  The light can engulf your problems if you allow it to.

Today’s Action Plan:  Today, allow the Light to be bigger than your issues.  Allow God to be bigger than your problems.

Today’s Affirmation:  Just for this moment…just for this breath, my life is one with the true power of God.  Amen

DAILY TRANSFORMATIONAL NUGGETS FOR THE BODY, MIND, AND SPIRIT: 31 Days of Celebrating Light – Day 10 “The I AM, the Light, and Love”

Today’s Body Connection:  God is in every single workout.  If you are open, you will see the Divine in every pushup, lunge, and squat.  As we transform the body-temple, we awaken the awareness of who and what lives within our soul.  We are the emanation of the Great I AM, created from Love, designed to shine the Light of the Universe.  No matter what physical practice you are doing, know that it is the power of God that is fueling your workout.

Today’s Meditative Thought:  No matter what you call your higher self, it is all the same.  Some call it Love or God; some call it Light.  Whatever name you give it, it is your higher self, the highest vibration that transcends this human plane of existence.  The Light is an impersonal being that really has no name.  The bible says that God is the I AM.  The I AM speaks more of the existence of God than trying to name it.  Be free to experience the presence of God. Connect with the Universal Flow, and then you will know that the I AM is what I am.

Today’s Action Plan:  Today, be still and know the I AM.  During meditation, take deep breaths and know the power of the Light.  Fall deep into the Love of God each moment you are in the stillness.  Be present to the Light that is your life.

Today’s Affirmation:  Just for this moment…just for this breath, I AM is the I AM that I AM.  Amen
