Skip’s Weekend Affirmation – The Practice

Ending the week with an affirmation is a great way to usher the weekend. They are especially powerful when they hold some type of truth or resonance for you. So find a quiet place to steel away your moment to breath and find that resonance: This week, we’ll take a look at an affirmation that reflects our meditation theme this week:

The Practice

Just for this moment…just for this breath, I return to source and live the greatest life possible. And so it is. Amen

The Practice

This week, I’ll begin by asking you what’s your spiritual practice?

Is it meditation, prayer, study, Yoga, or service? What helps you to grow? This is a rich and deep question to ponder. But a more important question should be, why do we practice? We do the work to wake up, and to stay awake. Our life comes from our spiritual practice. Everything that we do comes from this center, this purpose, this Source that I like to call God. When we choose to return to this Source during the time of the practice, our life becomes bigger than we could ever imagine. It doesn’t matter what the practice is; all roads lead to the same place.

Your Spirit Assignment

This week, find your spiritual practice. Take the time to explore the avenues and the options of spiritual work/play that will bring you closer to the realization that you and the God are one. Your choices are meditation, sacred study, prayer, service, and/or generosity. You are not limited to just one, but you must get moving; do something that will anchor your soul and return your awareness to the sacred place of your soul.

Vegan Recipes – Lotus Kitchen – Raw Thai Coconut Soup

lotus-kitchen-book-300x300Today’s Vegan recipe, Raw Thai Coconut Soup continues focusing on “Raw” theme. Organically grown raw and living foods provide high-quality nutrition while naturally supporting both proper digestion and a well-functioning immune system. Eating these life-giving foods helps to alkalize the body, a key factor in building excellent health. Today’s recipe is from my upcoming book, The Lotus Kitchen with Gwen Kenneally. Almost all of the recipes in the book are paired with a practice and yoga balance piece and this one has one at the bottom of the recipe.

Raw Thai Coconut Soup

Thai cooking is lively and aromatic and this soup is no exception. The coconut, ginger and garlic play nicely off the heat of the peppers. It’s at once complex and simple, not unlike a vibrant yoga practice.

Ingredients
2 young coconuts
1 cup cherry tomatoes
1 avocado
1 clove garlic, peeled
½ inch fresh ginger, peeled
1 teaspoon mustard powder
½ teaspoon sea salt
2 tablespoons soy sauce
Juice of two limes
3 Red Thai Chili Peppers

Garnish:

1 cup cilantro, chopped
2 cups of tomatoes, diced
1/3 cup of red onion, diced

Slice the coconuts in half and pour the juice into a large bowl. Scoop out the flesh and place in the bowl. Liquefy all ingredients with an emersions blender. Pour into bowl and garnish with cilantro, tomato and onion before serving. You can also use a traditional blender by placing all of the ingredients and liquefying. Serve room temperature. Serves 4

The Practice: Soup that is cool to the touch but heats presents opposition; once you taste it you will know true balance.

Yoga Balance: Some think our mind and body are separate, but as we practice yoga we learn to yolk our body and mind together. That is the main intention of the yoga practice. Recognize that you are one with your mind and body in all of your practice

DAILY TRANSFORMATIONAL NUGGETS FOR THE BODY, MIND, AND SPIRIT: 31 Days of Setting Intentions – Day 12 “Embracing Your Self” 

Today’s Body Connection:  Every intention is a yes for embracing your life force.  The word embrace means to hold tight to something or someone you adore.  Fitness is a big fat yes to life.  When we talk about life, it is the space of being, the vibration the Divine.  When we set the intention to embrace life and activate the universal flow of energy, exercise is one of the greatest tools we have.

Today’s Meditative Thought: This year, set the intention to embrace your self, your full self.  We are our own worst critics.  We can beat ourselves up more than anyone else.  We must learn to accept ourselves and to embrace and love every part of our being.  One of the practices I work on with my clients is “Loving Language” with our selves. When we use language like “I hate my hips” or “I hate my lips,” we anchor a mindset of defeat.  If there is something about yourself that you dislike or wish to change, it is an invitation to create a deeper spiritual practice that will always elevate growth within your life.  With that awareness, we are free to bless that which causes us discomfort as it always leads us back to God.

Today’s Action Plan:  Today, speak words of empowerment.  Be aware of your language.  Commit to the practice of the Love Language.  If your words do not inspire you to love your self, don’t speak them.  Take the time to breathe and wait a moment before you speak.  Set the intention to be aware of the power of your language.

Today’s Affirmation:  Just for this moment…just for this breath, I speak the language of Love.  I bless my life with divine words of the Universe.  Amen.

DAILY TRANSFORMATIONAL NUGGETS FOR THE BODY, MIND, AND SPIRIT: 31 Days of Celebrating Light – Day 31 “Begin Again”

Today’s Body Connection:  Push-ups, pull-ups, and crunches are great ways to train the body-temple without equipment.  You don’t need an external weight machine to challenge or to build strength.  You only need your willingness to allow your light to shine.  Today, begin your physical practice or simply begin again.

Today’s Meditative Thought: As we prepare for a New Year, we begin to reflect on the year that has just come to an end.  Did we complete all of the intentions set last year at this time?  Did we achieve our goals created from the space of “this next year will be better”?  This is the time of year that we become hyperaware of the restart button.  A New Year marks the end and the beginning of a cycle of time that man has created.  The truth is that the Light is eternal; therefore we are always in a space of starting again.  We do not have to wait for the New Year to begin a new cycle, or to set a new intention.  We can push the restart button right now.  Just take a breath and realize that this is a new moment in eternity.

Today’s Action Plan:  Today, close your eyes, take a breath, and push the restart button.  Set a new intention for your life, and begin again.

Today’s Affirmation:  Just for this moment…just for this breath, with the power of God, I begin again.  Today, only my highest good unfolds.  And so it is. Amen

DAILY TRANSFORMATIONAL NUGGETS FOR THE BODY, MIND, AND SPIRIT: 31 Days of Celebrating Light – Day 22  “Light Has No Boundaries”

Today’s Body Connection:  Retaining your core is half the battle for strengthening.  As you read this, notice your posture: are you slouching? Bad habits are hard to break, but we can change anything that no longer serves us.  Transformation begins with awareness.  You must turn on the light so it may shine.  Roll your shoulders back, lift your chin, and brace your core, creating a strong foundation as you sit, stand, or walk.  Allowing the light to shine comes from knowing your own strength.  When you raise and erect the torso, your light knows no boundaries.

Today’s Meditative Thought: The Light cannot be put into a box.  Some people think that God only exists within the four walls of their churches, in their perception, and/or in their religion, and yet they speak of the omnipresence of God.  When I saw a performance of the Broadway play “Fela,” and I had a truly Divine experience.  Through the music, dancing, and acting, I felt the creative force of God.  I was forever transformed.  In that moment, I had an instant download of the expansiveness of the Spirit.  It transcends all things.  Any idea of God that we may have is probably too small.  God is more than we can imagine, conceptualize, or describe.  God has no boundaries.

Today’s Action Plan:  Today, open your mind and allow God to be God.  Break down your boundaries and free up any ideas of how God should look in your life.  Be willing to see the true miracles unfold within you.  Every time you begin to imagine what God is, simply say, “God is much bigger than that.”

Today’s Affirmation:  Just for this moment…just for this breath, I am an expansive space for God to shine through.  And so I am. Amen

Today’s Body Connection:  Keep a record of your results and transformation.  Keep a journal of your journey.  It is inspiring to see where you have come from.

Today’s Meditative Thought: The Light is the one and only power that really exists; everything else only has the power we give it.  Lack, limitation, hurt, and disappointment have power because of our reaction.  If we allow people, places, situations, or things dominion over our lives, we have given power to those things.  Once we remember the true power of the Light, everything else dissolves and falls away.  When we enter into communion with God, our problems, issues, and concerns are just swallowed up into nothing.  The light can engulf your problems if you allow it to.

Today’s Action Plan:  Today, allow the Light to be bigger than your issues.  Allow God to be bigger than your problems.

Today’s Affirmation:  Just for this moment…just for this breath, my life is one with the true power of God.  Amen

DAILY TRANSFORMATIONAL NUGGETS FOR THE BODY, MIND, AND SPIRIT: 31 Days of Celebrating Light – Day 7 “The Light of Consciousness”

Today’s Body Connection:  Injury prevention is key when transforming the body-temple.  One of the most common mistakes during the beginning stages of training is overdoing it, and that can lead to injuries.  We must stay conscious every step of the journey.  Check in with your body-temple.  Stay connected and recognize when you need to slow down.  Remember that you are on a journey with no destination.  It’s not a race that you can win by coming in first.  You have already won by showing up and participating in your practice.  When you are connected and aware of what is happening with your body, you are conscious of your inner self.

Today’s Meditative Thought:  The Light is also known as the Christ Consciousness.  Jesus taught us that the power is our connection to God.  He said, “I and the father are one,” teaching us that there is no separation from God.  The light that Jesus radiated was the redemptive power that restored our consciousness back to that awareness.  The Master Teacher also said, “Greater things you shall do.”  The only possible way to do greater things is to know who and what lives within our being. When we are awake to the God within, then we awaken the Light of Christ, which is the Christ Consciousness.

Today’s Action Plan:  Today, begin to cultivate and contemplate your connection with God.  Take time to be still and just experience your oneness with a great power — the greatest power.

Today’s Affirmation:  Just for this moment…just for this breath, I awaken the power of God within me.  I am an on purpose, on point being of God.  And so it is.  Amen

Today’s Body Connection:  When we work the body-temple, we get to set an intention for a higher vibration.  The ultimate experience is always Love and Joy.  We must be open to seeing the joy, worthy of the blessing and keep the faith in every workout session.  It not an easy journey to take the high road but it always brings us to place indescribable ecstasy. Today, allow your practice to be the activation of bliss.  Be in the Joy always.  Your workout can be heaven on earth if you are willing.

Meditative Thought: Joy is a divine quality that is within every being.  It is our natural state to be in a space of absolute joy.  Once we realize that Joy is who we are, we can activate the joy within our soul.  Our prayer life is a communion with Joy, a sacred appointment that we must keep every day.  To know more Joy, we must be willing to take that leap into the prayer field and activate this high vibration.

Today’s Action Plan:  Today, during your prayer time, set the intention to activate more Joy.  Allow Spirit to speak to you and to show you the Joy that lives within your being.

Affirmation:  Just for this moment…just for this breath, I know I am Joy fulfilling itself; therefore I bless the planet and everyone I meet with Joy.  And so I am.  Amen

DAILY SPIRITUAL NUGGETS: 30 Days of Faith, Hope, Prayer, and Gratitude – Day 19 “Knowledge Is Power”

Today’s Body Connection: Have you ever heard the saying, “Knowledge is power”? This affirmation is the foundation of transformation. When we dedicate ourselves to the practice, we become an open vessel for knowledge. When we begin to study everything fitness-related, we dive into learning more and more about ways to activate our inner strength. We are inspired to make a space for self-exploration so that we may know what works or what form of physical practice inspires us. We empower ourselves with the knowledge of what is healthy eating and what is junk food. It is knowledge that empowers the manifestation of the life that we are meant to live.

Meditative Thought: “Inherent in every desire is the seed of its fulfillment.” — Deepak Chopra. Deepak speaks of faith. Know from the beginning that your prayers are being fulfilled. It is done. It is complete. The Universe never says no; yes is always the answer. Say yes to your highest good. Manifestation doesn’t always look the way we want it to, but it always shows up. Blessings might not show up when we want them to, but they always show up. Have faith that the Universe is working for your highest good. Release your expectations of how God should bless you.

Today’s Action Plan: Today, Pray without expectations, except one: know that God is blessing you right now with a BIG FAT YES!

Affirmation: Just for this moment…just for this breath, I say yes to the Universe and the Universe says yes to me. Amen
