Tai Chi (Tai ji quan) is an ancient Chinese form of martial art that is now widely used for health benefits and wellness. The concept of tai ji refers to the yin and yang – two halves that together complete wholeness. It is a series of low impact, gentle slow motions, taking small steps, focusing your attention as in some kind of a meditation, while you breathe deeply and naturally.
Chi Gong (Qi Gong) is an ancient Chinese form of mediation/exercise. The concept of Qi means air or breath as in life giving force, or vital energy. Gong means work or disciplined manner.
The benefits of mind-body practices and exercises are becoming more evident from scientific researches. Mindfulness mediation have been found to reduce stress, anxiety and depression, treat eating disorders, contribute to cell longevity, reduce inflammation-related genes, improve mood and sleep quality.
Meditation is an essential part of a focused, balanced and healthy lifestyle. When you mediate on a regular basis you will begin to see the positive impact it has on lowering levels of stress, anxiety and depression. As well as increasing your overall clarity of thought throughout the day. There are also many physical benefits of meditation such as lowering your blood pressure, strengthening your immune system, and improving the quality of your sleep.
It has been found that meditation helps you to control brain waves called alpha rhythms, which helps you to diminish distracting sensory information that leads to your ability to focus. Meditating regularly will reduce the production of stress related hormones like cortisol and increases the production of good chemicals like serotonin.
Being physically active, eating a balanced diet and drinking lots of water promote overall good health and mental well-being. Stress affects us all. It’s an automatic response when the body feels or thinks it is under attack, releasing hormones and chemicals to prepare the body for the physical action. When trying to manage stress, do not use the band aid approach.
Doing 30 minutes of walking everyday can boost your mood and reduce stress. Take a moment to stand up and stretch the muscles that store tension. Eating the right foods such as avocados, fatty fish, whole grains, lean protein, handful of nuts, citrus fruits, a mug of warm milk or herbal tea can actually help reduce stress, improve cognitive function, lower blood pressure levels and offer a major benefit to cardiovascular health.
Modern life is so busy. Whatever you do, find an activity that you enjoy, whether its hiking, playing basketball or a meditative meander down the park, eat well and live life to the fullest.
Mindful eating is the enjoyment and awareness of the emotional and physical sensations we feel while eating. Paying close attention to the food that we eat, how we eat and how our body reacts to the food that we eat can lead to better health. We live in a society where breakfast, lunch or dinner served in a brown paper bag or Styrofoam and consumed while in motion is generally acceptable. This behavior of mindless eating and lack of awareness of the food we are consuming can have a significant impact on our overall health and well being.
To counteract mindless eating, we need to learn some simple eating practices. Create a grocery list of foods that are pleasing to eat and with nutritious value. Focus your attention on the food in front of you. Engage your sense of sight, smell, touch and taste. Remove all distractions (cell phones, TV, books, magazines) that will take you away from the eating experience. Take small bites and chew well so you can taste all the flavors and spices blended in the food. According to growing studies, practicing mindfulness in a busy world can be challenging at times but learning to trust your intuition and listening to your body is an excellent way to foster mental clarity and overall well-being.

Curry Zucchini Soup
There are many different curries, all rich in distinctive flavors from all parts of the world. The familiar golden yellow powder found in Western culture includes coriander, turmeric, cumin, fenugreek, cinnamon and chili peppers. Ingredients in most curries help ease digestion, burn fat and are rich in anti- oxidants. And the flavor? Like no other.
In a large stockpot, saute the zucchini and green onions for 5 minutes over medium heat. Add the remaining ingredients. Simmer for 30 minutes. Puree in batches and return to the pan and heat through. Serves 4–6.
The Practice: The common curry has medicinal uses. It has been used for thousands of years to heat up and cure a variety of ailments from stom- ach cramps to throat infections. Just as curry heats and heals the body, a principle of yoga called Tapas heats the body through physical practice to purify, cleanse and heal. Set the inten- tion that healing can and will be acti- vated as you taste the delicious meal and participate in the blessed practice. One of the poses that activates healing within is the Wide-legged Forward Bend Pose. It helps to drain the impu- rities from the body, releasing all the unwanted toxins into the bloodstream so that we may ultimately release them completely from the body. This pose also realigns, rebalances, and soothes your mind and body by calming your energy.
Wide-legged Forward Bend Pose (Padottanasana) Instruction: Spread your legs to a wide straddle position. Slightly bend your knees and hang forward from the hips. Draw in and squeeze your abdominal wall, keep- ing your hips as high as possible. Place your hands on the floor to support your upper body, releasing your head toward the floor.
This film, Still Alice, tugs at the heartstrings and wakes you up to the terrible possibility of a neurodegenerative disease called Alzheimers. No one wants to talk about it, what happens to people when they are overcome by something that is out of their control such as Alzheimers. The scariest thing that this film will portray, is what happens to younger people who are overcome with Alzheimers when they had no idea they were at risk to start with.
In this film, Julianne Moore plays Alice Howland, a linguistics professor who is happily married with three children, who comes to find she has early onset Alzheimers. This woman is frightened, worried about her memories and her relationships with her family. There are limited days with a disease like this and they are all waiting for the day when she will no longer remember what she once was or the love she shared with her family. There’s a reason why Julianne Moore won the Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for Still Alice, it’s a must see film!

WORLD PEACE AND HEALTH CONFERENCE, CONCERT AND YOUTH COMMUNITY
DECEMBER 15- 26, 2015
World Peace. A dream so big it hardly seems achievable. With wars raging constantly around the globe, we need a voice for peace so loud it can drown out the guns. The World Peace Caravan believes that voice can come from our youth. Beginning December 15, 2015, the caravan will embark by camel, horse, and foot from Petra, Jordan on a 12-day journey for peace. It will be anchored by two landmark events, the World Peace and Health Conference at the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Centre on the shore of the Dead Sea in Jordan on December 21 and 22, 2015 and the blockbuster Concert for Peace, which will celebrate the end of the caravan in Jerusalem on December 26, 2015. The caravan will create a delegation of young people from around the globe to begin an important conversation about the future that these youth have the power to create.
The WORLD PEACE CARAVAN is founded by the international D. Gary Young Foundation, a 501 © (3) non-profit organization. The foundation is looking for like-minded partners who share in the vision of a world at peace.
